Our Impact

Travel That Gives Back

At Good Earth Tours, we believe that travel should do good. When you embark on a safari with us, you’re not just experiencing Africa’s breathtaking landscapes and wildlife, you’re directly supporting community-driven initiatives and conservation efforts that make a lasting impact. Here’s how we’re giving back:

Keeping Arusha Clean – One Stream at a Time

A cleaner city, a healthier future

Every spring, as Arusha emerges from the rainy season, our team joins forces with locals and volunteers for our annual street and stream cleanup. These temporary rivers that form during the rains carry debris through the city, polluting waterways and neighborhoods. By tackling these areas head-on, we’re not just clearing trash, we’re fostering a culture of responsibility, teamwork, and community pride.

This initiative has become a cherished tradition for our Arusha office, reminding us that small actions can make a big difference in protecting the environment we call home.

Transforming Lives at St. Joseph’s Orphanage

Creating brighter spaces for brighter futures

In January 2024, we partnered with a group of our incredible guests to bring change to St. Joseph’s Orphanage. With their help, we raised funds to renovate the orphanage’s dining area, creating a cleaner, safer, and more welcoming space for the children.

For us, this was more than just a project, it was a powerful moment of connection between our travelers and the communities they visit. Seeing the children’s faces light up as they sat down for a meal in their newly improved space was an unforgettable reminder of the impact travel can have beyond the safari.

Our Impact 1

Arte for Elephants

Elephants are intelligent, emotional, and deeply devoted to their families—but across the world, they face threats of habitat loss, exploitation, and extinction. That’s why we’ve partnered with Arte for Elephants (AFE), an initiative dedicated to supporting elephant conservation through art.

By selling unique, hand-crafted artwork from professional and amateur artists, AFE generates funds for organizations working to protect elephants worldwide. A portion of every sale goes directly to elephant conservation efforts, ensuring these magnificent animals have a safe future.

As a Good Earth traveler, you’re part of this mission. A portion of your safari cost helps fund these conservation efforts, so your adventure is not just unforgettable, it’s purpose-driven.

When you travel with Good Earth Tours®, you choose an eco-friendly holiday. You are also contributing to the sustainable development of the countries you visit.

Travel Responsibly

Your Safari, Your Impact

When you travel with Good Earth Tours, you’re not just embarking on a once-in-a-lifetime journey, you’re helping create a better future for the people and wildlife of Africa.

Good Earth Tours Sustainability Policy

At Good Earth Tours, sustainability isn’t a side quest. It’s baked into how we operate, the partners we choose, and the experiences we design. We’re committed to protecting nature, respecting cultures, supporting local communities, and making sure future generations can enjoy the wild places we love.

Protecting Wildlife and Nature
We do not offer excursions that harm animals, people, ecosystems or natural resources. We avoid any organization involved in illegal or unsustainable wildlife trade. Instead, we promote experiences that support conservation, protect biodiversity and highlight the work of local communities and environmental initiatives. Guests receive guidance on how to enjoy nature responsibly and contribute positively during their journey.
Responsible Partnerships
We seek suppliers and partners who share our values. Our contracts include sustainability clauses that cover child safeguarding, anti-corruption, waste management and biodiversity protection. We pay close attention to the social policies of accommodations and operators and collaborate with partners to help improve their sustainability performance over time.
Working With Local Communities
We believe tourism should benefit the people who call these destinations home. Whenever skills match, we hire locally and guarantee fair, living wages along with clear employment conditions. We prioritize accommodations that are locally owned, employ community members and meet sustainability and quality standards. We also encourage guests to visit local restaurants and shops and to support community projects that create real positive impact.
Human Rights and Cultural Respect
Respect sits at the core of how we operate. We avoid any partner involved in child labor, corruption or unsafe practices, and we ensure our own team members understand their rights and responsibilities. Our guides and representatives help guests navigate cultural etiquette, respectful photography, dress norms and sustainability considerations so interactions with people, wildlife and heritage sites remain thoughtful and responsible.
Our Environmental Approach
We work to reduce our energy and water use, cut waste and make thoughtful choices across our operations. In the office, we minimize paper, choose recycled materials and switch off equipment when it’s not needed. We rely on eco-friendly cleaning products, follow responsible waste disposal methods and favor greener modes of transport or virtual communication when possible. Vehicle maintenance is handled with care so our fleet operates efficiently and responsibly.
Guides, Leaders and Local Staff
We work with skilled local tour leaders, representatives and guides whenever possible, ensuring they have clear contracts, safe working conditions and fair pay. Training is provided regularly so they can offer accurate information on sustainability, cultural norms, human rights and environmental protection. Sensitive cultural or ecological sites are always guided by certified or specially trained experts.
Customer Communication and Protection
We protect customer privacy, follow ethical standards in our marketing and make sure we never promise what we can’t deliver. Guests receive information about sustainability-focused accommodations and excursions, as well as guidance on local culture, natural surroundings and health and safety. We keep an emergency contact available at all times and have clear procedures for handling feedback and complaints.
Continuous Improvement
We view sustainability as an ongoing journey. Our team receives regular training, we review this policy annually and we monitor our progress through monthly discussions. We also gather insights from guest feedback to help refine our approach and push ourselves to do better each season.
