The wet season is tropical, warm and often beautifully dramatic. Afternoons bring rain and high humidity, but mornings are usually clear for beach walks and lagoon swims. Some remote roads may become challenging and cyclone risk is highest from January to March along the east coast, but cultural destinations such as Ilha de Moçambique and the Zambezi Delta offer rewarding off-season travel. Southern beaches like Ponta do Ouro and Maputo Bay stay warm and inviting.

Mozambique’s shoulder months are calm, colorful and great value. April arrives with fresh post-rain greenery, clear views and steady seas perfect for diving and quiet beach days. Bird nesting season begins across wetlands and islands, creating ideal conditions for birdwatchers. November brings warm weather, gentle breezes and the exciting arrival of whale sharks, especially around Tofo and Vilankulo. Ocean conditions remain relatively calm, making it a fantastic month for marine encounters.

The long dry season brings calm seas, clear skies and wonderfully warm days that make Mozambique feel tailor-made for beach holidays and ocean adventures. This is peak season for diving and snorkeling, with excellent visibility from the Bazaruto Archipelago to Ponta do Ouro. Humpback whales migrate along the coast from June to November, creating unforgettable sightings around Bazaruto and Tofo. On land, wildlife viewing is at its best. Gorongosa and Niassa see animals gathering around remaining water sources, and access to northern parks like Quirimbas is easiest in the dry months. Highlands remain mild, while the south and west stay warm and golden.
