Top Places to Visit in Namibia

Canoeing in Orange River Namibia

Orange River

As you cover the border from South Africa to Namibia, you will encounter the stunning landscapes surrounding the Orange River. It is the longest river within the borders of South Africa, lined with green vegetation and large orange cliffs. There is very little wildlife on the river, and some believe it is due to the animals being hunted to extinction.

Top Activities:

  • Canoeing
  • Wild camping
  • Hiking
  • Bird watching

Important Note: Wear high-SPF sunscreen and drink water throughout the day; the region can get extremely hot and dry!

Where to go in Namibia - Namib-Naukluft National Park
Where to go in Namibia: From Desert Dunes to Wildlife Parks 5

Namib-Naukluft National Park

The greatest attraction of Namibia. Located on the western side, Namib-Naukluft encompasses part of the Namib Desert (the world’s oldest desert with a grand sea of sand).

Top Activities:

  • Climb Dune 45
  • Visit Sossusvlei
  • Hop for a 4×4 desert drive

Important Note: Wear sturdy shoes for dune climbs, fuel up before entering remote areas (petrol stations are scarce), and download offline maps beforehand because cell service is limited.

Seaside in Swakopmund Namibia

Swakopmund

Last but not least on our where to go in Namibia list is Swakopmund! The place to go for adventure activities, German colonial-style buildings, and Atlantic beaches. Though there’s not much to do inside the town itself, you will find plenty of fun things to do outside of it.

Top Activities:

  • Sandboarding on the dunes
  • Quad biking in the desert
  • Dolphin and seal cruise in Walvis Bay
  • Camel riding

Important Note: Be sure to pack layers and a windbreaker because the weather can be surprisingly foggy and chilly.
