The “Land of a Thousand Hills” is referred to as Rwanda , and Lonely Planet has referred to Rwanda as “scenically magnificent.” Magnificent Virunga mountains on the nation’s northwest boundaries provide excellent trekking opportunities; certain summits, including the snow-capped Mount Karisimbi summit, reach 4500 meters.

Some of the last mountain gorillas in the world are found in the region’s bamboo woods.
