The “Land of a Thousand Hills” is referred to as Rwanda , and Lonely Planet has referred to Rwanda as “scenically magnificent.” Magnificent Virunga mountains on the nation’s northwest boundaries provide excellent trekking opportunities; certain summits, including the snow-capped Mount Karisimbi summit, reach 4500 meters.

Some of the last mountain gorillas in the world are found in the region’s bamboo woods. Famous primatologist Dian Fossey’s work has made it possible for visitors to see these magnificent creatures in their natural environment.
